Arrests for celebratory gunfire in Juba

SPLA-Juba says it has arrested some soldiers from its own ranks for violating instructions not to engage in celebratory shooting in the capital city Juba on New Year’s Eve.

Spokesman Col. Philip Aguer said they have arrested some soldiers suspected of shooting during the nighttime celebration.

But Aguer was unable to confirm a report on social media that the number of those arrested was 30 soldiers.

Instead, Aguer said he has not yet confirmed how many soldiers are under investigation for the shooting, which he acknowledged was widespread and perpetrated by members of the army.
