Amoul community in Juba raises funds for development in Twic State

The Amuol community of South Sudan’s Twic State held a fundraising event last Saturday in Juba to raise money for development purposes in their state.

The event organized by community leaders and intellectuals hailing from Twic raised a sum of one million SSP in cheque, 200,000 SSP in cash and 3 million in pledges.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the chairman of the organizing committee, Atem Aher Masheer said the ceremony was meant to implement some of the resolutions reached in Amuol Development Conference held in January this year.

"These three millions pounds we have not received them in cash. We only received the cheque of one million from Makiir Gai Thiep and it's with finance. We have also received 200,000 SSP from Thiik Thiik Machar, the community leader of Awan in Juba,” said Aher.

Aher further said the one million pledge is from the office of the First Vice President Taban Deng Gai which will be paid after his return from the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York.

"The committee is now working hand in hand with those who made promises to follow-up the pledge money,” he added.

According to Alor, the money will be used to complete the construction of a commissioner’s resident guest house in Turalei County that was started by former Twic County Commissioner Biar Biar Ring.

In January 2017, the Amuol Community held the Amuol Development Conference in Turalei County Twic State in which they prioritized development as one of the key agenda in the Turalei County development plan with their community members both in South Sudan and in diaspora.
