IGAD-led peace talks for South Sudan failed to resume Wednesday as planned by the mediators.

South Sudan’s Information Minister declined to say the date when their delegation will leave for Addis Ababa for the talks, adding he did not know the agenda of the next round of talks.

“I will not tell you when the delegation will go to Addis Ababa and the agenda of the talks will definitely start with the talks”, he told Radio Tamazuj.

On his Facebook account, the SPLM-IO head of information committee Mabior Garang said they were notified by IGAD Special Envoys that the deadline was rescheduled at a request by the Juba delegation for Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Separately, SPLA spokesman Col. Philip Aguer accused the rebels of breaching the 9 May ceasefire agreement.

He said the rebels continued to attack their positions in Upper Nile, Unity and Jonglei.  He said they were attacked again by defected troops in Ayod on 27 July.

Aguer reiterated his army’s commitment to respecting the cessation of hostilities agreement, saying the SPLA is mandated to defend the country and its citizens.

Radio Tamazuj could not reach the opposition faction in those areas to comment on Aguer's claims.
