Acute shortage of bread in Sennar; two cases of scabies recorded

Mazmum town in Sennar reportedly experienced an acute shortage of bread at the market, caused by huge price hikes of flour.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, several citizens in Mazmum town expressed their outrage about the price hikes of flour and scarcity of bread at the bakeries. A sack of flour (about 100kg) has risen to SDG180 ($31), a source explained.

Shop traders attribute the problem to the scarcity of flour due to the stoppage of the main flour suppliers. “The Sayga and the Wheat flour companies used to supply us with flour but stopped after fuel subsidies were lifted by the federal government in Khartoum in the end of September,” according to a source.

“The Sein Company, belonging to Sudan’s National Security and Intelligence Service is the only company dealing in this sector but it produces flour of poor quality,” the source underscored.

Scabies

Two cases of scabies were recorded in the town of Mazmum in Sennar State. The Sudanese Red Crescent organisation is already treating infected people at El Jafrat area in Dali West.

Scabies is a contagious, itchy skin disease spreading through skin-to-skin contact with an infected person. Its transmission commonly occurs between family members and sexual partners or in crowded areas.
