Abyei youth union meets to make new constitution

The Executive Committee of the Abyei Youth Union over the weekend organised a general assembly meeting for the purpose of adopting an amended constitution of the union.

Wuor Chol Deng, the Abyei youth union’s social affairs secretary told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that they have formulated a new constitution by adding more articles, saying the new articles added were extension of the union’s term to two consecutive years instead of one year.

Deng stressed that the union is a backbone of the Abyei Area and played a key role in coping with the calamities that the Ngok Dinka community has faced.

He said the union played a key role in the Abyei plebiscite in October last year, besides raising awareness and organizing training courses for the youths.

Deng urged the authorities (of South Sudan) to recognize the Abyei referendum conducted in October last year and prevent the resettlement of the Misseriya militias in the Ngok Dinka territory.
