The Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) in the Abyei Area Administration says it has resumed a routine vaccination against six childhood diseases after three years.

EPI Abyei director Yusuf Ayom said the immunization in Abyei had been stopped for the last three years owing to lack of refrigerators and other equipment due to conflict.

The six deadly diseases that are prevented by the vaccination are tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough, polio, tuberculosis, and measles.

Ayom said health centers are now ready to provide vaccines. He urged parents to bring their children for vaccination because the doses are very important for children’s health.

He told Radio Tamazuj Friday that they carried out the vaccination campaign in collaboration with the immunization department in Warrap.

“There was no government involvement in the process whether from South Sudan or Sudan,” he said.
