Abyei natives complain of high prices

Citizens in Abyei report rising prices of commodities at the market due to impassable roads to and within the contested area between Sudan and South Sudan.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, several citizens said poor roads resulted to stoppage of transport in the area.

A source further said local residents resorted to using motorcycles to bring goods along the Abyei-Aniet road.

Traders also expressed concern about acute shortages of some consumer goods at the market. Since the roads are cut off prices of commodities have dramatically increased, according to a local trader.

“A sack of flour rose from 280 SSP to 520 SSP and sack of sugar reached 450 SSP,” he said.
