About 31 pharmaceutical companies in Sudan stop importing medicines

About 31 pharmaceutical companies dealing with the Sudanese government have reportedly stopped their trade, due to debts amounting to $90 million.

Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Health promptly started to investigate the issue in order to quickly find a solution.

The Minister of Health, Bahr Idris Abu Garda, told the Khartoum-based El Mijhar newspaper on Wednesday that the Central Bank has earmarked SDG80 million to import medicines for the period of eight months.

The Sudanese Minister said that he met with the Governor of the Sudanese Central Bank in the presence of the pharmaceutical importers as well as Sudan’s pharmaceutical council.

All the stakeholders confirmed their commitment to release funds in order to import the required medicines, according to Abu Garda.
