About 24 cattle drown, owners rescued in Jur River, Warrap

Cattle owners crossing the Jur River along with 24 cattle were reportedly about to drown at Akeij area in Garial West county in Warrap state on last Tuesday.

The incident took place when the men tried to rescue their cattle in the river.

Santino Manut, a journalist working for Kwajok Radio reported to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that about 24 cows drowned in the Jur River, while their owners had not been able to rescue them. The herders would have also drowned in the River if they were not saved by people at the scene, according to the South Sudanese journalist.

The cattle were intended to be taken to Gogrial West County, Manut explained.

The level of the Jur River had dramatically risen during the past weeks, causing great damages in the two counties of Gogrial East and West.
