Abdel Wahid criticizes political parties, activists at Darfur talks

The leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), Abdel Wahid Mohamed al-Nur, has threatened again to boycott ongoing peace talks between Khartoum and rebel factions in Darfur unless certain preconditions are met.

The leader has demaned a roadmap be drawn for the ongoing talks.

In a separate interview, a source close to the ongoing peace talks in Addis Ababa said the parties have started to negotiate the agendas proposed by the African Union mediation team. The source was not able to provide further details as to when the talks will officially start.

Wahid also criticized some of the participants. In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, he described political actors and civil society organizations at the talks as elites who just wanted to hijack the cause of the Sudanese people in order to achieve their own interests. And he said civil society groups are not actually representing the conflict-affected people.

He promised never to abandon the position of the SRF, an alliance that has threatened to overthrow the Khartoum regime.
