35,000 SSP stolen from Yei Electric Cooperative

At least 35,000 South Sudanese Pounds were stolen from the Yei Electric Cooperative (YECO) office in Central Equatoria State on Wednesday night.

YECO is the main power supplying company serving the whole of Yei town.

Acting Mayor of Yei Municipality Silvan Ali told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that a group of armed people broke into the compound and beat the two security guards before stealing the money from the office and escaping.

"The two security men were beaten seriously and now they are in serious conditions in the hospital," Ali said.

YECO’s General Manager Malish Lawrence told Radio Easter that the burglars looted money and electronics.

According to a police report, no suspects were arrested but investigations are underway to track down perpetrators, Catholic Radio Network reported.

Separately, Ali added that security forces have recovered a bishop's car which was stolen earlier this week.
