About 15 passengers including eight women are undergoing treatment at Nimule Civil Hospital after two commuter vehicles collided on Tuesday afternoon along the Juba-Nimule highway. 

Brigadier General Louis Idenge, the director of traffic police in Eastern Equatoria State told Radio Tamazuj that both drivers were speeding and that this caused the gruesome accident. 

”It was at around 3 pm in Ame Junction along Nimule -Juba highway when two Noah commuter vehicles collided. The one from Juba has plate number SSD 269 AF and the name of the driver is Jafar Monir Dafalla 35 years old from Keliko tribe in South Sudan and a resident of Juba and the other Noah is SSD 050 AK driven by Sam Abate Philip 24 years old from Kakwa tribe and a resident of Nimule,” he said. 

Idenge added that both drivers were injured and 13 passengers also sustained injuries, all of whom were admitted to Nimule Civil Hospital. “Out of the 15 casualties, 8 are women and 4 of them sustained broken bones and are in bad condition. The reason for the accident is that both of them were over speeding.”

Captain Juma George, the director of traffic in Nimule Town Council, confirmed the accident was caused by speeding and urged drivers to drive carefully during this Christmas period.

“As you travel during this Christmas you have to move slowly because some of these drivers are in a hurry so that they get passengers who came from Kampala in Nimule. Even passengers should advise your drivers to drive slowly,” Juma cautioned.
