15,000 displaced people gathered at Abiemnom, Unity State

Abiemnom County authorities say 15,000 internally displaced civilians have gathered at their county headquarters in Unity State and are suffering from lack of food and medicine.

"Now people are suffering from lack of food. Since the beginning of this conflict, WFP has never visited the area to see the situations of people who came from their six payams of Abiemnom County," Awerpiny Payam executive director Johnson Manyang Machar told Radio Tamazuj.

Manyang said people are surviving with small food items they brought from Aneet and Majak Counties in the Abyei area bordering Unity State.

He said CARE International is one group that has arrived to assist the populations with medicine, but it is not enough due to the large number of displaced people.
