11 dead in revenge killings in Rumbek East County

Lakes State Minister of Information Dhieu Wol said dozens of people were killed and several others wounded from in inter-clans clashes in Rumbek East County on Tuesday.

The clashes involved the Gony and Thieth sections of the Dinka tribe over unresolved revenge attack dating back to ten years, he said. The minister told Radio Tamazuj that the feud resumed on Tuesday after the killing of one person from Gony clan who was killed in Banram area.

He added the Gony clan accused Thieth of killing that person from their side. The minister pointed out that the clashes resulted in the killing of 11 people from the two sides and wounding of over 20 others.

He revealed that the government deployed security forces to separate the two clans in Pachong and Maler Agok areas where clashes took place between local youths from the two sides. But he didn’t clarify whether the fighting stopped or not.
