Thousands of flood victims in Duk County of Jonglei State have received a consignment of life-saving drugs as malaria and diarrheal cases spike. 

Early October, county authorities warned of a dire health situation after months of life-saving drug shortage amid rising cases of waterborne diseases. 

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Aguet Bior Ajang, the head of Duk Padiet Women Association in Juba, said they donated Monday to help save the lives of those suffering without healthcare services in the Duk Padiet area. 

“These drugs are meant for those whose homes were destroyed by floods since July.  The consignment consists of big nine cartons of different kinds of drugs like pain killers and anti-malarial drugs,” she said. 

“Due to the influx of the displaced, the drugs may not last for a month. But we hope it will save lives. As women, we came together and lobbied for support. We got some of this donation from churches.” 

The women leader appealed to well-wishers to support flood victims. 

For his part, Elijah Manyok, the acting county commissioner,  welcomed the donation, saying it will help save the lives of those suffering without treatment, and appealed for more support.
