A woman has been detained in Aweil East County suspected of having committed abortion, which she denies.

Police in the area are keeping the woman in custody. A police officer named Agany Akol Wol said that the woman was brought to his office on Monday after military police found the body of a fetus in a residential compound.

The woman was suffering from a stomach problem, with non-stop bleeding for more than four days, according to the police officer. She went to a clinic belonging to Yom Marol Kur and was given dehydration mixes with medicine for stopping the bleeding.

After the woman’s visit to the clinic, the fetus was found on a residential compound by military police in the course of their normal daily activities, according to the police officer. They reported the matter to the administration concerned and afterwards the doctor came and gave a report.

The police officer said that the woman remains under detention because this is a criminal case.
