Weapons amnesty in Rubkona county

There are reports of authorities in Rubkona county, Unity state in South Sudan beginning to action a weapon amnesty.

Governor of Rubkona county Simon Matok told Radio Tamazuj the process of collecting weapons from citizens and militias started on Monday.

The citizens of Rubona are said to be worried about the distribution of arms in the border area adjacent to South Kordofan in Sudan.

However the Governor reassured them that the government of South Sudan would protect citizens in the region.

He accused the Sudanese government of arming militias in the region to cause chaos, noting that the spread and possession of weapons of civilians contributed to the increasing levels of criminal activity.
