Wau government removes illegal roadblocks

Authorities in Wau State have started a campaign to remove all unauthorized roadblocks on the different roads, a state security adviser said.

Speaking to reporters in Wau town on Friday, Anthony Fada Ubor said the campaign is being done to implement a recent presidential order. He said the move is for the easy movement of the citizens and traders.

“Yesterday [Thursday], we started implementing orders from the governor to remove all checkpoints in Wau State. So the committee I am heading which is composed of all the organized forces like the national security, police and SSPDF [South Sudan People’s Defense Forces] started removing all checkpoints starting from the eastern bank up to our borders with Tonj State,” Fada said.

He added, “The aim of the order is to avoid unnecessary collection of taxes, which result to the rise of the prices in the market. We are going to remove all the checkpoints on roads connecting the state to Aweil, Gogrial, Tambura and Lol States”.

The security adviser appealed to the citizens in the state to report to authorities any existing checkpoints or law enforcement officers found on the roads.

Fada warned that anyone who tries to set up these prevented roadblocks will be caught as there will be a regular supervision body.

He urged Wau citizens to maintain peace and stability.
