A delegation of members of the United Nations Security Council will visit South Sudan on Sunday amid international efforts to push for peace implementation.

The UN Mission in South Sudan announced Tuesday a high-level delegation of the United Nations Security Council will arrive in the capital, Juba, on Sunday in order to put its weight behind the political process.

The scheduled visit comes amid mounting global pressure on South Sudan’s rival leaders to settle outstanding issues in the revitalised peace deal and establish a unity government by November 12. Under the peace deal, the rival parties are to create a unified army and settle disputes over the number and boundaries of states.

The UN Mission pointed out that the high-level delegation of the United Nations Security Council is led by South Africa and the United States.

It revealed that the delegation will meet with President Salva Kiir and other signatories to the peace agreement as well as civil society, women’s representatives and other stakeholders in the peace process.

South Sudan's main opposition group, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-In-Opposition (SPLM- IO), announced earlier this month that Riek Machar will return Juba to hold follow-up meetings with President Kiir.

The opposition group said Mr. Machar will be accompanied by a delegation of the United Nations Security Council and African Union Peace and Security Council.
