Traditional doctor in custody over the death of a man in Lakes State

Police authorities in South Sudan's Lakes State say they are holding a traditional doctor connected to the death of a man in Abang Payam of YirolWest County on Wednesday.

Lakes State's police spokesperson Major Elijah Mabor Makuac told Radio Taamzuj that the deceased met his death after ingesting herbs given to him by the traditional doctor. Another man is fighting for his life after taking the same herbs.

"We have one case in Yirol in which two people went to a traditional doctor to seek treatment, unfortunately, one person died and the other survived and was rescued in a place called Abang Payam of Yirol West county," he said.

Mabor added that the traditional doctor is being investigated and she will face the law if found guilty.

He added that an unidentified body was found at the edges of Lake Yirol last Saturday.

"It was reported to the police and the police took the body to the hospital for postmortem. But, the hospital could not do it because the body was rotten and even it is difficult to be identified and that incident happened on Saturday," Mabor said. "This morning (Wednesday), they just told me that they are doing some legal procedures such that they can obtain a burial certificate and the body to be buried."

According to him, there are no reports of missing persons in the area, but he calls on anyone who may have lost a loved one to go to the police station and report.
