A senior SPLA-IO commander in Kapoeta State has complained about a lack of basic services including food and water at one of the cantonment sites.

Lowareng cantonment site division commander Yusuf Peter told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the situation is dire and there is need for intervention.

"Our forces are suffering from lack of food, clean water, and medicine here at Lowareng cantonment site,” he said.

Besides, Peter urged the government to intervene and supply them with food and non-food items urgently.

“We don’t have any means of transport, when our soldiers get sick we cannot transport them to the headquarters,” Peter added

The opposition official further pointed out that of the 1,500 troops in the cantonment site, 400 have not been registered due to lack of forms.

Signatories to the revitalized peace deal have until mid-February to have half of the 83,000 unified forces trained and deployed. Creating a unified army and determining the number of states and their boundaries remains the biggest challenge in the peace deal.
