An unknown gunman shot and killed a spiritual leader in Lakes State, an official said.

The incident occurred in the area of Abiriu in Cueibet County on Thursday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the Executive Director of Cueibet County, Zachariah Mamer Thokgor said the gunman also wounded another person who was traveling with the spiritual leader on a motorcycle.

Mamer identified the deceased as Deng Manyuon Adel who hailed from the Luacjang community in the neighboring Warrap State.

“The incident occurred on the Abiriu-Rumbek road. The wounded person, identified as Maneet, is now receiving treatment at the state hospital,” he said.

The local official pointed out that the motive of the killing remains unclear. He noted that security forces are hunting for the suspected killer.
