South Sudan’s Ministry of Health on Thursday announced 16 new coronavirus cases, raising the country’s coronavirus tally to 2,129.

COVID-19 Incident Manager Dr. Richard Laku said of the 16 new cases 10 are males while six are females.

 Dr. Laku stated that the new confirmed cases were from 86 samples tested, bringing total samples tested in the country to 11,668.

The health official said the cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 1,065, while the number of fatalities has risen to 41 after one more person died due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

Laku disclosed that a total of 356 contacts that were being traced have been reached and that a total of 4,481 contacts have so far completed their mandatory 14-day follow-up.

He announced that the cumulative number of contacts followed by the ministry now stands at 4,903.

Dr. Laki repeated his appeal to the public to follow government guidelines to curb the spread of the disease.
