South Sudan has asked the Kenyan government not to pull out its peacekeepers in the U.N. Mission and disengage with the country's peace process, Minister of Information Michael Makuei said on Friday.

"South Sudan pleads with the government of Kenya not to implement its decision and to give itself time," Makuei told reporters.

Earlier this week, the Kenyan government announced that it would pull out its roughly 1,000 peacekeepers in South Sudan after a the Kenyan UNMISS force commander was fired after an internal UN report on the July fighting was released. The country also said that it was going to disengage with South Sudan's peace process.

The government also asked the U.N. Security Council to reconsider its decision, and called upon both parties to sit and find a solution.
