A police officer was killed and a trader injured in a cattle raid along Maper-Rumbek road in Western Lakes State on Saturday.

Western Lakes State information minister Wol Agany told Radio Tamazuj Sunday that about 30 head of cattle were also stolen in the incident by a group of armed men.

He said the late policeman identified as Mayar Makuer Mayar was accompanying the owner of the 30 cattle from Maper to Rumbek when they were ambushed.

Agany said security forces are pursuing the raiders.
