Authorities in Terekeka County of Central Equatoria State over the weekend received a new police post to help combat crimes. 

The facility, constructed under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Quick Impact Project, was handed over to the authorities in Terekeka town on Saturday. 

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Major-General Abednego Akol, the Police Commissioner for the defunct Terekeka State, appreciated UNMISS support, saying the facility will help them maintain law and order in the county. 

“Police require offices for effective service delivery. As police, we are now able to combat crimes such as gender-based violence and cattle thefts,” he said. 

“As police, we are mandated to protect civilians and their properties. But since I came in 2017, we could not deliver because we operate under trees and inside tents. So, this made us start this initiative, and with UNMISS support, we now have the facility, which will help us to deliver on our mandates,” he added.

The police official assures Terekeka residents of their safety as they now have a permanent base. 

Akol also pointed out that over 80 female officers have been trained to tackle gender-based violence and human rights cases in Terekeka since 2017. 

He urged Terekeka residents to cooperate with the police to combat crimes and all forms of violence.
