New finance minister sworn in one day after Dhieu's ouster

Salvatore Garang Mabiordit was sworn in Tuesday as the new minister of finance, a day after South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir sacked his predecessor, Stephen Dhieu Dau, with no explanation.

The swearing-in ceremony was organized at the presidential palace in the presence of the country’s chief justice Chan Reech Madut.

President Kiir called on the new minister to exert efforts to improve the economic situation and to cooperate with all government institutions for the sake of development in the country.

The newly appointed finance ministry had served as the first undersecretary of the ministry of finance and technical adviser in the ministry of trade and investment.
