MTN network goes off in Yambio

MTN network has been off in the town of Yambio in South Sudan’s Western Equatoria State since Monday, residents said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, several residents say they are unable to connect with their relatives for days due to the unavailability of the mobile network in the area.

Smart Iron, an airtime dealer, said his business has been affected. He urged the management of MTN South Sudan to expedite repairing the network to enable normal resumption of his business.

Angeline Maivi, another resident, said she is unable to communicate with her relatives in Uganda due to network failure.

Meanwhile, the management of MTN said upgrading from the third generation (3G) to the fourth generation (4G) of wireless mobile telecommunications technology caused the failure in its network.

It assured its clients that efforts are underway to restore the network.
