A commercial motorbike operator was on Tuesday injured in an attack carried out by unidentified gunmen on the road between Western Lakes and Gok States, a police officer said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the Western Lakes State police spokesman, Elijah Mabor said the injured motorbike operator is now receiving treatment at Rumbek hospital.

“There was only one incident reported along the main road between Western Lakes and Gok States where criminals who were not identified shot the ‘bodaboda’ operator. He is now receiving treatment in Rumbek main hospital,” Mabor said.

He said the incident occurred when the motorcycle operator was travelling from Western Lakes to Gok State.

The police officer pointed out that the general security situation in Western Lakes State is calm and stable. He noted that the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
