Man shot dead in Mvolo County

Officials in Mvolo County of Western Equatoria State say a man was shot dead by gunmen on Saturday evening in Bahr-el-Grindi Payam.

Haringa Sebit, who was with other young men, was killed while traveling from Yeri to Bahr-el-Grindi Payam for a marriage ceremony.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Mvolo County Executive Director Isaac Togule, said it is a revenge killing and called on the communities of the county to stop revenge killings because people are preparing for cultivation.

"Sure, it was on 13 February. There is a youth called Haringa Sebit who was moving from Yeri going to Grindi Payam for the celebration of a marriage when they fall into the hands of unknown gunmen who shot him dead. Those whom he was with run away. We took the dead body to Yeri and buried it,” Togule said.

He added that the authorities, with the collaboration of the police, are looking for the perpetrators and they will be brought to book.

"If those criminals are arrested, we will bring them to book because we have the border court and the committee formed by the defunct five neighboring states,” Togule advised. “And I am asking our youth to distance themselves from revenge attacks. I want to tell my youth that they should not go and attack the Dinka and take their cows, they should be at home. If a criminal comes, then they can defend themselves."
