Kuajok police arrest 4 for robbery

Police in Kuajok town of Warrap State over the weekend arrested four young men suspected of breaking into shops in the town’s main market.

On Thursday night last week more than four shops were broken into during a heavy downpour and traders have repeatedly complained of night burglaries.

Bridger General Akuechbeny Machol Majok, the acting commissioner of Police in Warrap State told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that their Criminal Investigations Department (CID) managed to arrest the suspects who were accused of stealing over 90,000 SSP and other items from local traders in the market.

"Thieves came at night and broke the roofing when they got it difficult to break through the ceiling board, police patrol came and scared them and then they ran away. Again some thieves organized another plan on the same night and broke into the shop and took things and CID personnel managed to apprehend four of the suspects and they are now in police custody," Gen. Machol said.

He said they will be taken to court when investigations are complete and urged the people in the town to remain vigilant and protect their property.

Machol called upon the national ministry of interior to logistically support the state police stations to combat crime.

"Inside the state here, we don't have the means of transport for transporting soldiers. If we have cars and there is where disorder is spotted and want to increase police then we are supposed to get into our cars and move there quickly to rescue the situation," Gen. Machol said.

Abib Mustafa, a Sudanese businessman from Darfur said on Thursday last week some thieves broke into his shop and took over 90,000 SSP and one crate of Red Bull.

"The thieves came at night and broke into the shop through the door and took 94, 000 SSP, one crate of a soft drink called Red Bull, and one bag which contained only a personal identification card. CID staff managed to recover my bag and National ID. I used to sleep in the shop all this time and now I am sleeping with my kids in the block but it is not the first time for such crimes in the market to happen. Some of my colleagues experienced the same," said Mustafa.

Geng Kon Mayiik, another trader in the Kuajok market, says the situation is beyond them and asked the government to intervene.

"We call upon our government to help us with these criminals looting our properties here in Kuajok, to search and bring them to the book. That is our message to the government to help us in this situation" Kon Mayiik said.
