South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has formed a committee to work out "proper" plans for reunification of the divided SPLM party.

South Sudan's ruling party is hoping to unite the rival factions that split after the conflict erupted in December 2013.

Kiir, who doubles as leader of the governing party, agreed to reunite with members of the SPLM-FDs in Juba on Tuesday.

The order, read on state television on Thursday, said the committee is tasked with devising proper mechanisms for reunification of the SPLM party.

According to the president's order, the committee will be chaired by Vice President James Wani Igga, who is also the deputy chairman of the SPLM party.

Its members include Jemma Nunu Kumba, Paul Mayom Akec and Michael Makuei Lueth.

The committee is expected to submit its report to the president within 14 working days.

According to the order, the decision was taken based on the Arusha reunification deal signed on 21 January 2015 under the auspices of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi, Tanzania’s governing party.

The deal signed by SPLM faction led by Salva Kiir, SPLM-IO group led by Riek Machar and SPLM-FDs led by Pagan Amum, laid out key steps towards the reunification of the fractured SPLM party.
