Kenya's former special envoy to Sudan, Lazarus Sumbeiywo, met with South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit in the capital Juba on Tuesday.

Retired Kenyan General Lazaro Sumbeiywo played a key role in the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development’s (IGAD) mediation talks that ended two decades of civil war in Sudan with the signing of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

In a press statement after the meeting, General Sumbeiywo said his meeting with the South Sudanese leader focused on the implementation of the signed revitalized peace agreement.

“The people of South Sudan need help to come back to peace and live in peace forever,” Sumbeiywo said.
