Juba airport authorities deny rumours of missing plane

South Sudan airport authorities on Tuesday dismissed as fake news the rumours circulating on social media about a missing plane at Juba Airport.

Kur Kuol Ajieu, the airport’s general manager, denied all rumours and said that no airplane went missing at Juba International Airport.

“These are allegations and there is no such thing happened at the airport,” said Kur.

“I heard rumours that the airplane took off and it lost contact with air traffic control, but all these are allegations,” he added.

The official pointed out that the aviation authority is the sole authenticated source of information related to aviation sector in the country.

“We cannot hide it if such thing happened, we would have made it public,” he said.

Several sources at the airport also described as "rumours" reports that a plane had gone missing.

On Monday, news circulated on social media that a plane carrying salaries of civil servants and soldiers disappeared from the airport.

There were no details about the type of aircraft that allegedly went missing.
