The defence lawyer for the former spokesperson of the former first vice president turned rebel leader Riek Machar on Monday approached the Court of Appeal, seeking an appeal against the court verdict against Gatdet.

Gatdet was sentenced to death recently on charges of treason and incitement against the government.

Kur Lual, Gatdet’s lawyer in Juba, told Radio Tamazuj today that he had gone to appeal against the death sentence against his client on Monday.

He pointed out that sentencing of Gatdet needs a letter from the country’s president to confirm that he had committed treason.

The defense lawyer pointed out that they are now waiting for the Court of Appeal to invite them at any time soon.

Gatdet was sentenced to death alongside William John Endley, a South African national who was one of Macher’s advisers.
