IDPs complain of high prices in S Kordofan

A number of citizens and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) complained about the rising prices of basic commodities in Kauda, South Kordofan. They also said many commodities are lacking.

Salwa Abbas, who owns a small restaurant in Kauda town, said that a kilo of meat is 17 pounds, sugar is 8 pounds, one measure (pound) of cooking oil is 14 pounds, and a malwa (sack) of onions reached 45 pounds. She said that prices vary from one place to another, possibly demonstrating the greed of some traders.  But businessmen complained to Radio Tamazuj of poor road conditions that drove up the costs of bringing goods into the war-torn state.

Kauda is considered the area that hosts the largest amount of IDPs in the Nuba Mountains. They come from different areas of South Kordofan due to the ongoing conflict that broke out in June last year in the region.
