A team from humanitarian organizations operating in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State visited Lujule payam of Morobo County to assess needs of returnees in the area, a local official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the county coordinator for the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), Samuel Taban said there are more than 1,000 returnees from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in need of food, shelters and medical assistance.

He said humanitarian organizations, headed by the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), assessed returnees’ needs for health services, water, food and non-food items.

“The assessment team, headed by UNOCHA, ACROSS, SSUHA and other organizations looked into areas of health, water, sanitation and hygiene, food security and non-food items. From last week up to now, there are many returnees in Kimba payam headquarters who want food and non-food items extended to them,” Taban said.

He added, “People are coming to the payam every day as I talk”.

The official urged humanitarian organizations to compile their findings and respond to people’s needs in their next visit to the area.
