Heavy rains cause damage in Rabak

Heavy rainfall in Rabak has caused the collapse of some houses and flooding in the market.

The heavy rains since late last week also affected many villages around Rabak, the capital of White Nile State. Citizens complained of destruction to houses and commercial areas and said the authorities were nowhere to be seen.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday from Rabak, a number of sources emphasized that authorities were reluctant to take action, complaining that they should have surveyed and built water channels in the town before the rains.

Too much stagnant water in the town has also raised fears of mosquito breeding, which may increase the incidence of malaria.
