A two-day dialogue conference organized for communities in South Sudan’s Greater Jonglei State concluded in Bor town on Thursday with calls for peace.

Delegates at the meeting, agreed to build peace among Murle, Dinka Bor and the Lou Nuer communities through civic engagement.

Representatives from Bieh, Jonglei and Boma states signed the peace document.

“We, therefore, agreed to establish a Joint Peace Committee among the three communities to follow up on reported cases of conflicts, enhance interactions among border community leaders and promote their empowerment, and encourage the government and community leaders to promote the recovery of the abducted children, “the document reads in part.

 During the conference, the delegates also vowed to pass peace messages to their community members upon return.

The deputy governor of Jonglei State, Ding Akol Ding, said they will implement the conference resolutions to restore peace in the region. Akol urged opposition groups in the region to desist from violence.

 The official revealed that governors of the Greater Jonglei state will meet in Bor town next week to build relations and trust among the locals.

 At least 30 participants, including chiefs, youth and women leaders from Bieh, Jonglei and Boma states attended the conference which was funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
