'Frank talks' end without new deal

The joint talks to discuss the outstanding issues ended yesterday without reaching a new deal between Sudan and South Sudan.

Delegations agreed to work hard to find a political solution to secure the border and decide on citizenship arrangements along with the other outstanding issues.

'The meeting was a good introduction for both parties to address the outstanding issues as a whole; the discussion was very frank' said Sudanese foreign ministry spokesperson Al-Obaid Marawih.

Pagan Amum chief South Sudanese negotiator said the proposed summit in Juba with president Bashir and president Kiir was intended to find new ways to create confidence and switch from confrontation to partnership.

He added that the agenda of the Juba summit will follow on from negotiations began in Addis Ababa.
