The South Sudan Police Football Club thrashed Journalists Football Club 1-0 in a friendly soccer game in Juba on Wednesday.

The match was organized by all media stakeholders in South Sudan to promote good working relations between the press corps and the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS). The match kicked off from 9 to 11 AM at the seminary playground in Rock city west of the capital Juba.

The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) Vice President, Ajak Ayak Ater, at the commencement of the match cautioned that the game should be friendly and peaceful.

“This is a good day for us journalists of South Sudan. We want to thank the organizers of this match.” Ayak said. “We are happy with our journalist players and the police players and want this match to be very friendly and peaceful.”

She added: “We as UJOSS and other media stakeholders such as AMDISS, Female Journalists Network, and all media houses will continue to support the Journalists Football Club. We will bring you football Jerseys for the Journalists Football Club.”

Ater pledged to form a football club for her female colleagues in the future.

“We also thank all media houses for sharing with us today to ensure the match between journalists and the South Sudan Police succeeds, especially Sama FM,” Ayak said. “As UJOSS, our mandate is to ensure the safety and protection of journalists in South Sudan.”

Major Sebit Joseph, the representative of the SSNPS, said the two institutions should regularly schedule such friendly matches to boost their working relations.

“We must continue to play friendly matches like this as it will encourage good working relations and build trust between the two institutions,” Maj. Sebit said.
