At least five people were killed in revenge attacks in South Sudan’s Torit State early this week.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Torit Police spokesperson Mathew Ochan said four women and one man were killed during revenge attacks between the Lobira and Dongotono communities in Kideopo Valley County.

“One person was shot dead by the Lobira community, the man in the garden. This is the first incident that happened. Those of Dongotono came for revenge on the 21st killing four women in the area of Lobira by the Dongotono,” he explained.

Ochan said police investigators have been sent to the area to identify the cause of the conflict and those responsible for the attacks.

He condemned the attack saying there are many avenues to resolve disputes other than revenge killings. He urged the communities in Torit to find peaceful means of resolving disputes.
