Fishmongers in Bor town in South Sudan’s Jonglei state have expressed concerns over persistent fuel shortage that threatens their business.

Speaking to Radio Taamzuj on Wednesday, most of the fish dealers along the shores of the River Nile blamed inadequate fish supply to the market on fuel shortage.

In April, the state government initiated a plan to supply affordable fish to Bor town market to enable low income families afford to buy fish.

A boat loaded with 2,000 fish was ferried to the town and a large number of local residents were invited to buy at reasonable prices.

However, Adior Garang, a fish dealer in Bor said fish supply in the past month has been irregular. She said that the few available fish cost between 500 and 1,000 South Sudanese Pounds depending on the size and species.

Debora Nyibol, who came to buy fish for the family, said she waited for more than three hours and no fish has arrived in the market.
