A 31-year-old man has died after hanging himself in South Sudan’s Torit State on Tuesday, the police confirmed.

The incident occurred in the Malakia area of Torit town.

The state police spokesperson, Lt. Col. Mathew Ochan Jacob told Radio Tamazuj Thursday that Jose Kamilo hanged himself upon returning from hospital, but relatives are still clueless about the reason.

“On 29th January, someone called Jose Kamilo committed suicide. Witnesses say it happened at 11:30 at his home,” he said.

Neighbors and friends, Ochan said, told police that Kamilo visited the hospital on 28 January, but nobody knew the outcome of his visit.

“You know, he did not tell anybody whether it was HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis or what type of sickness. The life of that person became confused, starting even from the hospital,” explained Ochan.

The police spokesperson advised the population against the act of committing suicide.

 “It is known that this world is unspeakable, especially for those in hospitals. The counseling team must be serious. If there are cases of Hepatitis or HIV/AIDS, it needs counseling so that victims understand that it is normal,” said Ochan.

“People should not be stigmatized and die just like that. There are also people who fall on roads and die,” he added.
