Congolese man found dead in Yei town

A Congolese man was found dead in South Sudan’s Yei River County over the weekend, a community leader said.

The Congolese community leader who only identified himself as Charles told Radio Tamazuj that their colleague’s body was found on Sunday morning at Gabat Residential area inside Yei town.

“I was called by phone to witness the dead of one of our Congolese national, we found that there was no wound in his body but we saw blood flowing out from his mouth and his neck has swollen, his hands were tied up and his cloths removed,” he said.

Charles further said the cause of death is not clear but the police who were at the scene of the crime have started investigations.

He urged the government to beef up security for both nationals and foreigners in Yei.

For his part, Yei River State police commissioner Yoasa Lujang Kamba said a team of investigators were dispatched to the area and investigations have been launched into the matter.

“We are going to investigate the cause of the death; the body of the diseased has been taken to the hospital for post-mortem examination. He was not shot but investigations are under way,” Lujang said.

According to the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, there were over 8,000 Congolese nationals Yei River State’s Lasu Payam along the South Sudan-Congo border before the outbreak of the 2016 crisis.
