Frustration is being expressed across a wide range of civil servants employed by the government of South Sudan’s Tonj state as they await the payment of their arrears.

 Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, several government employees said they have gone unpaid for more than six months.

Pasquale Ring Bol, who works for the state ministry of education, said he could not prepare anything for his family to celebrate the Christmas due to lack of money.

He pointed out that he has gone unpaid for more than six month and that prices of essential goods are increasing in the market.

 “I am struggling to provide my family with food, but the issue of clothes and Christmas needs is impossible right now,” he said.

Cecilia William, a tea maker in in the market main, said she is not ready to celebrate the Christmas with new clothes because the delayed payments of salaries for civil servants affected her business.
