The Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements, Monitoring Mechanism (CTSAMM) is calling on all parties to the ceasefire agreement to evacuate their forces occupying civilian buildings.

Speaking at the close of the technical committee meeting comprising CTSAMM officials and military leaders from both government and opposition parties in Khartoum, CTSAMM communications Officer Ruth Feeney said they have reports of government and opposition forces occupying schools, health facilities, and worship centers.

Feeney said it is time the forces abandon the facilities and allow civilians to return to their areas and resettle.

“They need to have schools; they need to have hospitals and places of worship. We must ensure that situations are normalized in order for people to come back. So, those aspects are very much a big focus of this meeting,” she added.

The ceasefire monitoring body further said most of the facilities are in areas such as Yei, Wau, and Bentiu which still experience tensions.

CTSAMM is mandated by the regional bloc IGAD to monitor and verify the implementation of the Agreement on the Cessation of Hostilities as per the peace deal.
