Local authorities in Aweil East County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have arrested two suspects accused of instigating violence that claimed the lives of two people.

On Tuesday this week, youth groups from Lou Aguer Geng community of Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Awan Chan Nyal of Warrap States fought during traditional dances in Akoong, a multi-ethnic local administrative area. Two people were killed and others injured.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the Executive Director for Aweil East County, Abraham Wiik Awan, confirmed that two people, one of whom is a government soldier have been arrested in connection to the incident.

Wiik identified the dead as Jacob Athian Athian and Kiir Athian. He further said three people injured in the fighting are receiving treatment at the hospital. 

The county official added that the situation was calmed by a team of organized forces deployed to quell the situation.
