15,000 students in South Kordofan risk missing exams

Nearly 15,000 primary and secondary students in Sudan’s South Kordofan state may not sit for their exams this year after failing to obtain national identity cards.

Abdallah Girfa, an MP representing South Kordofan state in the national parliament, said in a statement on Friday that the candidates could not bring first class witnesses to allow them to obtain the national identity cards.

He pointed out that relatives of those candidates are living in rebel-controlled territories.

The legislator revealed that he had written a letter to the Interior Minister over the issue, adding the minister promised to find a solution to the matter, but there is no progress so far.
