12 students acquire computer skills in Jonglei

12 students, including nine females, graduated on Saturday from a vocational training center in Bor town of Jonglei State after completing a three-month computer course.

The free course was offered by Jonglei Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development (JIPDD), a civil society organization working in partnership with Project Education South Sudan (PESS).

The training covered introduction to computer, MS office, internet, computer maintenance, leadership and financial management.

Daniel Deng, JIPDD’s Executive Director urged the graduates to use their skills to combat online hate speech in the state.

He said the program seeks to equip female students in the greater Jonglei region with leadership and computer skills to help them get employment opportunities in government and non-governmental organizations.

“Girls in Jonglei are not valued and we are doing this to make all people equal. So far, we have trained 110 in computer. Our target is 11,000 female students in Jonglei. With secondary school certificates, they are competent to get jobs,” Deng explained.
